Barboursville Vineyards

Barboursville Vineyards has been around for 45 years, tucked away amongst beautiful rolling hills and historical ruins north of Charlottesville off Route 20.
There is a tasting room, gift shop, and a restaurant. You can get cheese and crackers and/or snacks or bring your own. During the week, you have enough seating but you still might want to grab a blanket and find a shade tree. On the weekends, they are busier so bring chairs or a blanket. My friends, Tom & Shannon, we like to bring food and get a bottle or two and people watch and catch up. Our last visit was the Summer of 2019. I went the other week, on a Monday late afternoon. It was nice and not overcrowded.

The tasting room had changed due to Covid. Instead of multiple wine stations with staff pouring for you, there are machines that you put a card in to get a tasting. There was a wonderful gentleman named Bill, who is loaded with information about the wines and the vineyard history. I hope when Covid is a distant memory, that they return to the human pourers. I feel it makes it more personal and for new tasters having someone to walk them through it is important. But the wines are as great as they always are. Bill was nice enough to let me taste the new release of their famous Octagon, 2017. It was velvety and I will be getting a bottle soon. I enjoyed my tasting and all the wines met my expectations. I relaxed after with a glass of sparkling Brut Rose Cuvee 1814 on the patio.
